The investigating officer (IO) in the case filed over the murder of Ishayat Shahriar, alias Apratim, the only child of a Comilla University teacher, has been changed.
Inspector (Investigation) Rajib Ahmed of Sadar South Model Police Station will now investigate the case, replacing Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman confirmed the development on Friday night.
The case documents are expected to be handed over to Rajib within the next few days.
Rajib said the superintendent of police’s office had issued an order changing the investigating officer.
“Investigation will begin after we receive the case documents. We hope to complete the investigation soon and submit the charge sheet to the court at the earliest,” he said.
Apratim murder
Apratim went missing from the Kotbari area of Comilla on the afternoon of September 18 after leaving home to take photos with his iPhone.
Police recovered his body the following day from a forested area in the Sananda area of Lalmai Hills.
Police said they have so far arrested Saiful Islam Tuhin, 19, Siam, 19, and two juveniles in connection with the murder, based on CCTV footage and information from Apratim’s mobile phone.
The two juveniles were sent to the Gazipur Child Development Centre by a court, while Tuhin and Siam are being held at Comilla Central Jail.
