The government has increased the welfare fee for Bangladeshi workers going abroad by Tk2,000, raising it from Tk3,500 to Tk5,500.
The revised fee will come into effect on October 1, according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Workers going abroad are required to become members of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board by paying the fee before departure.
The circular, signed by the ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Saiyeda Faizunnesa, said the fee was revised to ensure the overall welfare and protection of migrant workers as the scope and volume of services provided to them have increased.
The ministry also said the fee was adjusted in line with the current exchange rate and market prices.
The Tk5,500 welfare fee will apply to fees collected from workers going abroad, those already overseas and workers from whom the fee is collected at airports.
