Major reshuffle, promotions in top police ranks

The Bangladesh Police has undergone a major reshuffle, with six officers promoted to Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) and five Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-rank officers transferred to new positions.

Two separate notifications were issued by the Police-1 Branch of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

The notifications, issued by order of the president, were signed by Deputy Secretary Tawsif Ahmed.

According to the first notification, Sayedur Rahman, former director (DIG) of Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, has been promoted to Addl IGP and posted to Police Headquarters.

Mainul Hasan, currently serving as Addl IGP (in-charge) of Tourist Police, has been posted as principal (Addl IGP) of the Sarda Police Academy.

Dhaka Range DIG Iqbal Hossain and Police Headquarters DIG Kamrul Ahsan have been promoted to Addl IGP and posted to Police Headquarters and the Special Branch (SB), respectively.

Special Branch Addl IGP Sardar Nurul Amin has been transferred to Police Headquarters, while Sarda Police Academy Principal GM Azizur Rahman has been transferred as Addl IGP of Tourist Police.

The second notification announced the reshuffle of five DIG-rank officers.

Police Headquarters DIG Rezaul Karim has been transferred as DIG of Khulna Range, while Khulna Range DIG Mostafizur Rahman has been transferred as DIG of Dhaka Range.

Anti-Terrorism Unit DIG Mohammad Muslim has been appointed director of Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital.

SB DIG Mir Ashraf Ali has been transferred as DIG of Railway Police, while Mass Rapid Transit (Metro Rail) DIG Siddiqui Tanjilur Rahman has been appointed DIG of the Special Branch.

The notification said the transfers and postings were made in the public interest and would take effect immediately.
