Abahani Limited is set to lose control of its Dhanmondi field, which it has been using under a 99-year lease from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is taking over the field.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced the decision on Wednesday.
According to the release, the formal handover of the field will take place at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. After the handover, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will take control of the field from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The field is then expected to be opened to the public.
The field will also be renamed “Dhanmondi Cricket Ground.”
Ministry sources said the Ministry of Youth and Sports is preparing a plan for managing the field after it comes under government control.
Officials said similar decisions have also been taken regarding two other fields in Mirpur, Dhaka.
