Becoming a lawyer is a matter of pride, but remaining committed to justice is the true responsibility of a legal professional, said Kazi Latifur Reza, head and associate professor of the Department of Law at Bangladesh University.
He made the remarks in his welcome address at the Advocate Felicitation Programme 2026, organised by the university’s Department of Law on Saturday.
More than 50 former Bangladesh University students who passed the Bangladesh Bar Council and High Court Enrolment Examinations in 2026 and were enrolled as advocates were honoured at the event with flowers and commemorative crests.
Justice Muhammad Mahbub-ul Islam of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court attended the programme as the chief guest, with Bangladesh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam in the chair.
In his welcome speech, Kazi Latifur Reza urged the newly enrolled lawyers to pursue continuous legal learning, professional competence, integrity and ethical practice.
“You are not merely former students of Bangladesh University; you are representatives of the university in your professional lives,” he said, stressing the importance of strengthening ties between the Department of Law and its alumni.
Justice Muhammad Mahbub-ul Islam emphasised integrity, dedication, professional ethics and continuous learning in the legal profession.
He urged the new lawyers to work with patience and perseverance and play a responsible role in upholding justice and the rule of law.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam congratulated the newly enrolled lawyers, describing their professional achievements as a matter of pride for the university. He also stressed the need to strengthen ties between the university and its law alumni.
Special guests included Dr Md Atikus Samad, additional district judge and attached officer of the Law and Justice Division; Advocate Syed Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Bar Council member and chairman of its Relief Committee; and Barrister Md Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, Bangladesh Bar Council member and chairman of the Law Reform Committee.
They were also presented with commemorative crests.
