Legal action will be taken against those involved in the attack on actor Azmeri Haque Badhan, said Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Dr Zahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday.
The incident would not be ignored under any circumstances, he said while speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on the progress of various government activities.
Referring to the attack on Badhan, Zahed Ur Rahman said: “Azmeri Haque Badhan was attacked. We have seen the video. Those who carried out the attack also recorded and published the incident themselves.”
“The process of taking legal action under the relevant laws of that country has already begun. We will certainly not let this go. This cannot be ignored under any circumstances,” he said.
Speaking about attacks allegedly carried out by Awami League leaders and activists, the information adviser questioned the nature of the party.
“What is the Awami League? Who are its members? What is the Awami League? They are bringing these questions before us again,” he said.
He said there had been considerable discussion over whether the Awami League should be regarded as a political party.
“I do not consider the Awami League a political party. It is a mafia gang,” he said.
He said the attack on Badhan had once again raised the question of whether the Awami League should be treated as a political party and allowed to engage in politics in the country.
“If you had even the slightest remorse for what you have done, and if you had any intention of returning to politics, such acts of violence would not have happened. They simply would not have,” he said.
The adviser also described the attack on Badhan as a form of achievement and recognition for the actress.
“Azmeri Haque Badhan, I would say that being subjected to harassment by the Awami League, or being targeted by a mafia gang, is in a sense an achievement and an honour. It proves that you were actually on the right path,” he said.
Referring to Badhan’s statement during a Facebook Live in which she described herself as a July fighter, the adviser said: “Yes, I am.”
“Similarly, many of us are like that. We may become victims of attacks. But we don’t care. Not at all,” he added.
