Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced a cash reward of up to Tk200,000 for information leading to the recovery of looted and illegal weapons.
He also warned that police officers who fail to make progress within set deadlines in controlling terrorism, extortion and drugs will face strict legal and administrative action.
The minister made the remarks while briefing journalists on Saturday following a “Quarterly Crime Review Meeting” at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium.
Salahuddin said police would undertake targeted efforts to recover looted and illegal weapons, with a special police unit being formed for the purpose.
To encourage people to assist in recovering the weapons, the government has announced rewards of up to Tk200,000, he said.
At the meeting, police members raised various issues concerning law and order, including the need for increased technological support in their work.
The home minister said the government was working on these matters and issued necessary directives to maintain the law-and-order situation.
Responding to journalists’ questions after the meeting, he said police had been instructed that the law-and-order situation would gradually improve further.
