Presidential election voting begins

Voting in the election to elect Bangladesh’s 23rd president began at 2pm on Thursday at the National Parliament.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, serving as the returning officer for the presidential election, is overseeing the voting process.

BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to cast his vote at the Parliament Chamber.

Voting will continue until 5pm.

The election comes after Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned as president on July 24, following which Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram assumed the responsibilities of acting president.

The new president is scheduled to take oath at Bangabhaban on Friday evening.
