Info minister: Bangladesh moving from ruins to planned reconstruction

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Monday said the government remains committed to being accountable to citizens and transforming the country from the debris toward a planned reconstruction.

"The first 180 days of the government's five-year tenure were dedicated to clearing the debris of the existing ruins of the state and society, laying a strong foundation for implementing future planned program," he said.

The minister made the remarks at a press briefing held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday to present the government's activities and progress during its first 180 days.

He further said the unprecedented love and respect shown by people following the death of Begum Khaleda Zia on December 31, 2025 was another powerful symbolic message from the public.

"The anger of August 5, the love and confidence of December 25, and the respect and solidarity of December 31 are the three events that now serve as our core inspiration in governing today's Bangladesh," he said.

The minister said people had regained their long-denied voting rights and given a clear mandate through the election, and the government is acting on the strength of that mandate.

He noted that the government remained accountable to the people.

"Government's principal objective during its first 180 days was to prepare the state for implementing new programs by identifying institutional damage, repairing weaknesses, and paving the way for future progress," he noted.

The minister also stressed the need for rebuilding the institutions of society that were crumbled by the previous government.

He mentioned that the government would continue publishing a regular account about election manifesto implementations.

The briefing, organized by the Prime Minister's Press Wing, was moderated by Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly while Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon delivered the welcome address.

Prime minister's advisers, state ministers, special assistants and members of the press wing were also present at the briefing.
