The government is working on the long-awaited ninth national pay scale for government employees, and it will be implemented within this year, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Monday.
His remarks came after Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary A B M Abdus Sattar said the proposed pay scale had reached the final stage.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting on the pay scale at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, Amir Khosru said discussions were underway on various aspects of the new pay scale.
“The new pay scale will be implemented within this year. Everything will happen, but some issues require further discussion. We discussed one aspect today, while other issues remain. Once all matters are discussed and a final decision is reached, we will present the details to you,” he said.
The finance minister said the government was carefully considering all relevant issues before finalising the pay scale.
He urged everyone to remain patient, saying the government would disclose the details once a comprehensive and final decision had been reached.
