Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) organised a candlelight vigil at the memorial of renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer Mishuk Munier on Thursday to mark their 15th death anniversary.
They were killed along with three others in a tragic road accident in 2011.
Among those attending were Mishuk Munier’s brother Asif Munier, Dilara Begum Jolly and artist Sara Hossain.
Earlier on Wednesday, BLAST organised a tribute and gathering at the Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier memorial near the TSC area of Dhaka University.
At the gathering, BLAST raised three demands, including recognising compensation paid to road crash victims under the Road Transport Act 2018 and related rules as due compensation rather than merely a grant or financial assistance.
The organisation also called for compensation to be revised to reflect the actual losses suffered and for the claims process for the heirs or legal representatives of deceased victims and injured persons to be made simpler, faster, transparent and victim-friendly.
BLAST further demanded effective and accountable measures to prevent road crashes, proper enforcement of road safety laws and policies and justice and effective remedies for victims and their families.
BLAST Communication Coordinator Musfikur Rahman Maruf disclosed the information in a press release.
Tareque Masud was born on December 6, 1956, in Nurpur village of Bhanga upazila, Faridpur.
