The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has formed a joint investigation committee to look into the collapse of a wall at Mirpur College in the capital’s Mirpur-2 area that left two people dead.
In a press release issued Tuesday night, the DNCC said the committee comprises representatives from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the city corporation.
Further legal action will be taken based on the committee’s findings, the DNCC said.
DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan announced the formation of the committee after inspecting the site following the wall collapse in the afternoon.
Expressing grief over the casualties, he said the wall had construction defects.
“Although the wall was built in 2014, the necessary construction materials were not used. No reinforced cement concrete (RCC) work was carried out; the wall was built only with brick masonry. This is why such a major accident occurred today,” he said.
He said the remaining walls would be strengthened and rebuilt in consultation with the college authorities to prevent similar accidents in the future.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm.
