Deadline for expatriates' passport corrections extended to Dec 31

The government has extended by six months the deadline for Bangladeshi citizens living abroad to correct passport information while applying for a new passport or reissuing an existing one.

Under the latest decision, the special provision will remain in effect until December 31, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

The ministry said the extension was granted in the public interest to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of passport-related services for expatriate Bangladeshis.

Under the provision, Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad can apply for a new passport or reissue an existing one after correcting information such as their name, date of birth, parents' names or other personal details.

The ministry said the previous order, issued on July 8, 2025, was valid until June 30, 2026. The deadline has now been extended to December 31, 2026.

The notification said the decision takes immediate effect and relevant authorities have been instructed to implement it.

The extension will allow expatriate Bangladeshis who missed the previous deadline to complete the correction process, making it easier for them to access passport services and carry out travel and other administrative procedures.
