The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market following a drop in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat hallmark gold—the highest quality—has been reduced by Tk2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams) to Tk221,966, including VAT. The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk19,030 per gram.
According to a Bajus statement, the revised prices took effect at 10am on Monday.
Bajus said the decision was made unanimously at a meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring held at 9am on Monday after reviewing the overall market situation. The updated price list was later published in a statement signed by the committee's chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin.
Under the new price list:
- 21-carat gold: Tk18,175 per gram
- 18-carat gold: Tk15,610 per gram
- Traditional-method gold: Tk12,755 per gram
BAJUS also announced revised silver prices. The new rates are:
- 22-carat silver: Tk395 per gram
- 21-carat silver: Tk375 per gram
- 18-carat silver: Tk325 per gram
- Traditional-method silver: Tk245 per gram
The association said VAT is already included in the selling price of gold, so customers cannot be charged VAT separately. However, making charges will apply separately depending on the design of the jewellery.
Bajus added that its existing rules for the exchange and purchase of gold and silver jewellery will remain unchanged, with applicable VAT, making charges and the value of any stones deducted as per current regulations.
