Fire breaks out at Old Dhaka's Khaja Market

A fire broke out at Khaja Market in Ashiq Tower in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze was brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts by six units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

According to the Fire Service, the fire erupted at around 1:34pm in a shop on the third floor of the five-storey building.

Anwarul Islam, an official from the Fire Service media cell, said that two firefighting units from the Lalbagh Fire Station were initially dispatched to the scene and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze.

As the operation continued, four additional units from the Siddique Bazar Fire Station were deployed to assist. The combined efforts of the six units brought the fire under control at approximately 3:15pm.

No casualties have been reported in the incident. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and authorities are expected to investigate the origin of the blaze.
