Cabinet clears procurement of 2 LNG cargoes

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved the procurement of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the spot market at a total cost of Tk1,437.55 crore to help meet the country’s energy demand.

The approval came at a meeting of the CCGP chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The proposal was placed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division under Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025, through the international quotation method.

Under the proposal, one LNG cargo will be procured from BP Singapore Pte Ltd, while another from TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd, UK.

Meanwhile, the CCGP also approved two proposals to import a total of 75,000 tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertilizer from Russia and Canada at a cost of Tk351.26 crore.

The committee approved the import of 35,000 tonnes (±10%) of MOP fertilizer from Russia under a government-to-government agreement between JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The consignment will be procured at a cost of Tk163.92 crore, with the price fixed at $380 per tonne. 

Besides, it approved the import of 40,000 tonnes (±10%) of MOP fertilizer from Canada under a state-level agreement between the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC)and BADC. 

The purchase will cost Tk187.34 crore, with the price also set at $380 per tonne. 

The committee awarded the contract to the Canadian Commercial Corporation.

The cabinet also approved two separate proposals for importing 270,000 tonnes of wheat to strengthen the country’s food grain stocks.

Under the first proposal, the committee recommended approving the purchase of 50,000 tonnes of wheat through an international open tender under Package-3 for FY26.

The procurement will be implemented by the Directorate General of Food at a total cost of Tk182.84 crore.

The wheat will be purchased at a rate of $297.92 per tonne from Singapore-based supplier Agrocorp International Pte Ltd.

In a separate decision, the committee recommended approval of a proposal to import 220,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States under the government-to-government (G2G) arrangement.

The procurement will be implemented by the Directorate General of Food at a total cost of Tk869.56 crore.

The wheat will be purchased at a rate of $322 per tonne.

Two contracts worth about Tk281 crore for upgrading roads linking Lakshmipur, Noakhali, and Feni districts with the National Special Economic Zone were also approved.

Under the first proposal, the committee recommended awarding the WP-01 package of the project titled “Upgrading the roads connecting Lakshmipur, Noakhali, and Feni districts with the National Special Economic Zone to the required standard” to MAH Construction Ltd at a cost of Tk134.52 crore.

The committee also recommended approving the WP-02 package of the same project.

The contract, worth Tk146.47 crore, has been recommended for a joint venture of Asif Infrastructure Ltd and Rimi Nirman Ltd.

Both proposals were placed by the Road Transport and Highways Division.

The combined value of the two contracts stands at approximately Tk280.99 crore.
