Bangladesh’s national space agency has been directed to transform into a modern, self-reliant institution capable of contributing to national security and development after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid an unannounced visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) on Sunday.
The surprise visit to SPARRSO headquarters at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Agargaon was not included in the prime minister’s official schedule, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
During the visit, the prime minister toured different sections of the organization and held discussions with its officers and researchers on ongoing activities, research and future plans.
Receiving a briefing from SPARRSO Chairman Md Rashedul Islam and senior officials, Tarique Rahman instructed the authorities to develop the organization into a future-ready institution capable of supporting Bangladesh’s development and strengthening national security through advanced space science, satellite technology and remote sensing.
He emphasized the need to build SPARRSO into a modern organization equipped with advanced technological capabilities to meet the country’s growing strategic and development needs.
Officials from different departments presented their ongoing research, innovations and projects during the visit.
SPARRSO is Bangladesh’s national agency responsible for research, development and the application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing for national development.
