Govt vows to dismantle oligarchs, build self-reliant economy

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said the BNP government wants to transform Bangladesh into a self-reliant, stable and industrially developed country where every citizen would enjoy the rightful benefits of prosperity and dignity.

The government is ready to take any step to unlock new opportunities, he said, adding that ensuring equity and justice in the economy and dismantling oligarchs are among the key goals of the BNP government.

Mirza Fakhrul, also BNP Secretary General, made the remarks while speaking at a conference titled "Trade, Economic Growth and Economic Diplomacy Action Plan" organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at a hotel in the capital.

He said, "I am not here today as a panel discussant; rather, I am here to present the government's commitment and pledge towards achieving our core objectives."

He added, "The theme of this session is addressing risks, leveraging resilience and moving forward with renewed momentum and proper direction. I believe it reflects our mindset for building the future."

Mirza Fakhrul said this clearly demonstrates that the government is prepared to do whatever is necessary to create new opportunities.

He further said, "The present government has been in office for just over 100 days. However, our goals and aspirations are very strong.”

Earlier in the morning, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid tributes at the mausoleum of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia along with members of the newly formed committee of Jubo Dal.
