Bangladeshi woman dies in Delhi hotel fire, toll rises to 23

A Bangladeshi woman undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries sustained in a hotel fire in the Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi, India, has died, raising the death toll to 23.

She died at a hospital on Wednesday, Indian media outlet NDTV reported.

Police said the woman had been receiving treatment for critical burn injuries sustained in the fire.

South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal said: “Unfortunately, one more person has died while undergoing treatment. With this, the total death toll has risen to 23. The deceased is a Bangladeshi woman who died today.”

A massive fire broke out on June 4 at the Flourish Stage Bed and Breakfast hotel in the Hauz Rani area. Twenty-one people died on the spot, while several others were injured.

Earlier, the death toll had risen to 22 after a Nigerian national undergoing treatment for burn injuries died in the hospital. The latest death of the Bangladeshi woman has now pushed the toll to 23.
