PM: Peacekeepers’ role unique in ensuring global peace, human security

On the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman extended greetings and paid deep respect to peacekeepers around the world, describing UN peacekeeping operations as a unique and vital initiative in ensuring global peace, stability, and human security.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the peacekeepers, praising their courage, patience, and dedication in restoring peace in conflict-affected regions and areas facing humanitarian crises.

He also expressed profound respect for peacekeepers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and conveyed sympathy to those injured or affected, along with their families.

The Prime Minister noted that Bangladesh has long played a significant role in UN peacekeeping missions. He said Bangladeshi peacekeepers serving in different countries have set an example of professionalism, skill, and humanitarian commitment, enhancing the country’s reputation on the global stage and strengthening its contribution to international peace and stability.

He further said that Bangladesh remains one of the leading contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide.

Highlighting the contribution of women peacekeepers, the Prime Minister said Bangladeshi female personnel are playing an increasingly important role in international peacekeeping. Through their professionalism, leadership, and competence, they have earned global recognition, reflecting both women’s empowerment and Bangladesh’s development progress.

He concluded that a peaceful and secure world can be built on the foundations of mutual respect, cooperation, and tolerance. Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment, he said the country will continue to actively participate in UN peacekeeping efforts and called on all to work together in building a peaceful, humane, and inclusive world.
