Minister: Probe report on 6 newborns death to be submitted on Wednesday

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Saturday said a full investigation report on the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area will be submitted on Wednesday.

“We are unable to submit the report today. The committee has been given three more days, and the report will be submitted on June 3,” he told reporters at the Directorate General of Health Services in the capital’s Mahakhali.

He said the statements of the bereaved mothers staying there have not yet been recorded. Therefore, the investigation report is not being published on Saturday, he said, adding that after taking their statements, a comprehensive and objective report will be prepared.

Citing preliminary findings, the minister said it had been learned that the air-conditioning system was out of service for two hours during the incident, from 2am to 4am, and there was reportedly no ventilation arrangement.

He said strict action would be taken against those found responsible based on the investigation report.

DGHS director general Pravath Chandra Biswas was present.

On May 27, the bodies of the six newborns were handed over to their families following a request from relatives on the condition that no autopsies be conducted.

In connection with the tragic incident, a family member of one of the newborns filed an unnatural death (UD) case with Ramna Police Station.
