Mahdi Amin: Govt to complete Padma barrage, advance Teesta project

Prime Minister's Adviser and Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin has said the government will complete the Padma Barrage project and will also move forward with work on the Teesta Barrage.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Monday afternoon, marking the government’s first 100 days in office.

Mahdi Amin said the government has placed special emphasis on nominating representatives from diverse religious, ethnic and indigenous communities to reserved women’s seats in parliament, aiming to reinforce the principle that politics is about public service rather than the pursuit of power. He added that women with long-standing contributions to struggle, sacrifice and public service have also been given due priority and recognition.

Referring to waterlogging in Chittagong, he noted that the Prime Minister’s public apology in parliament for the temporary suffering of residents reflected her accountability and commitment to the people.

He further said the Prime Minister’s simple lifestyle, conduct and wisdom have helped rebuild public trust in the state and its leadership after a prolonged period.

“Drawing on that trust, this BNP-led government will complete the Padma Barrage project and initiate work on the Teesta Barrage, Insha’Allah,” he added.
