Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the charge sheet in the Pallabi child murder case will be submitted to the court on Sunday, expressing hope that the trial proceedings will be completed within the next seven to eight working days.
Speaking as the chief guest at a dialogue organised by the Secretariat Reporters Forum at the Secretariat media centre, the home minister said, the government has adopted a strict stance over the incident and will show no leniency toward those involved in the crime.
He said the prime accused was arrested within seven hours of the incident, while another accomplice was detained the following day.
Salauddin Ahmed also said that the charge sheet was finalised last night and is being submitted to the court on Sunday. Considering the gravity of the case, the Chief Justice is reportedly considering cancelling court holidays to expedite the proceedings. A special public prosecutor has also been appointed to ensure a speedy trial.
“The government expects the judicial process to be completed within the next seven days and will ensure the maximum punishment for the accused,” he added.
Commenting on incidents of rape and murder in different parts of the country, Salahuddin Ahmed said such crimes are the result of social and cultural degradation.
