A former army member, identified as Md Rahed Hossain Mahed, has been arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police over allegations of involvement with the banned militant outfit Dawlatul Islam New JMB.
He was arrested late on Thursday night from the Islamnagar area of Shahzadpur union under Barlekha police station in Moulvibazar.
On Friday, DMP Media and Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner NM Nasiruddin, quoting the CTTC unit, said the arrested former army member had been dismissed from service. He is a suspect in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital.
Preliminary investigation found that he had been dismissed from the army and was actively involved with the banned organization Dawlatul Islam New JMB. Legal proceedings against him are under way.
