Bajus slashes 22-carat gold price by Tk 2,215 to Tk 242,495

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has announced another reduction in gold prices in the local market, lowering the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,215 per bhori to Tk 242,495. The new price came into effect from 10:00am on Friday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring held on Friday morning.

Committee Chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen confirmed the matter through a press release.

According to Bajus, the adjustment follows a decline in the price of pure (acid-tested) gold in the domestic market.

Under the revised rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 2,100 to Tk 231,472 per bhori. The price of 18-carat gold has dropped by Tk 1,808 to Tk 198,405 per bhori, while gold produced through traditional methods now costs Tk 161,605 per bhori after a decrease of Tk 1,458.

Earlier on May 7, Bajus had raised gold prices, setting the rate of 22-carat gold at Tk 244,710 per bhori. The latest adjustment marks a reversal within just eight days.

Despite the drop in gold prices, silver rates remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk 5,774 per bhori, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 5,540, 18-carat silver at Tk 4,724, and traditional silver at Tk 3,558 per bhori.

Market analysts say the latest adjustment reflects fluctuations in the global gold market. International prices, which had surged amid geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, have recently shown a downward trend, influencing local pricing.
