Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Monday said the government is planning to construct a second Padma Bridge, with three proposals currently under consideration.
Speaking to journalists after a preparatory meeting at the Secretariat on measures to ensure safe travel during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday, the minister said the first proposal is to build the bridge at the Daulatdia–Paturia point.
“The feasibility study has already been completed. We are now considering the financing aspect and holding discussions on it. Other preliminary preparations are also underway,” he said.
The minister made the remarks in response to a question on whether the construction of a second Padma Bridge would significantly help reduce road accidents.
