Former railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan has been granted bail by the High Court in three cases, including one related to the killing of Rafiqul Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The High Court bench, comprising Justices KM Zahid Sarwar and Sheikh Abu Taher, passed the order on Tuesday, following bail petitions filed by the former minister in the three cases.
According to the case documents, Sujan was detained by police on the night of September 16, 2024 from Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area. The following day, September 17, he was shown arrested in a murder case filed with Jatrabari Police Station over the death of a youth named Imran Hossain and was produced before the court.
On September 22, 2024, the court granted a five-day remand for Sujan in connection with the case involving the killing of Rafiqul Islam, the owner of Raiyan Computer Training Centre in the Gopibagh area under Jatrabari Police Station.
Later, on September 28, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub ordered his imprisonment in the same case.
Sujan was also shown arrested on September 17 in another case filed over the killing of Rafiqul Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement in Jatrabari.
