Renowned educationist and psychologist Professor Naushaba Khatun passed away on Friday morning. She was 99.
Family sources said she breathed her last in the morning.
Born in 1927 in Kolkata, Professor Naushaba Khatun pursued her higher education at the University of Dhaka, where she later became closely associated with the academic community. Over a distinguished teaching career spanning several decades, she served in a number of leading educational institutions, including Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College.
She later joined the Institute of Education and Research (IER) at the University of Dhaka, where she worked as a professor for nearly 27 years, contributing significantly to teacher education and educational research in Bangladesh.
She was married to eminent musician Kalim Sharafi, who passed away in 2010. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her daughter, internationally acclaimed scientist Firdausi Qadri, is among her surviving family members.
Following her retirement, she remained actively engaged in social welfare initiatives, particularly focusing on the education and well-being of underprivileged communities and persons with disabilities.
Her life was widely regarded as a commitment to education, compassion, and public service. She is fondly remembered by generations of students and colleagues for her contributions to academia and society.
Her namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at Azad Mosque in Gulshan, Dhaka. The family has requested prayers for the eternal peace of her departed soul.
