The Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad has urged the prime minister to declare at least three days of public holidays for Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
The organization’s General Secretary Santosh Sharma made the demand while speaking to reporters after a meeting with the prime minister at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He said issues concerning the Hindu community were discussed in a cordial atmosphere. “The prime minister listened to our concerns and assured us of solutions in phases,” he added.
Santosh Sharma said the delegation also raised demands to withdraw what it described as false and harassing cases filed against members of the Hindu community after August 5, ensure proportional representation of minorities in all sectors, and bring to justice those involved in killings, looting, and vandalism triggered by misinformation on social media.
He added that the prime minister assured that legal actions would be taken in phases.
