The continuous seven-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival for Muslims, is ending this Monday (March 23).
From Tuesday (March 24), busy city life will resume once again. Government offices, including the Bangladesh Secretariat—the top administrative office of the government—will reopen Tuesday.
Simultaneously, financial institutions including banks and insurance companies, as well as the higher and lower courts, will also reopen.
The last working day before the Eid-ul-Fitr was March 16. The seven-day continuous holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr began on March 17.
The Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims, was celebrated in the country on March 21.
Already, crowds of people returning to their workplaces in the capital have started to increase.
Crowds of people returning to the capital were seen at Sadarghat launch terminal, Kamalapur railway station, and the Sayedabad, Mohakhali, and Gabtoli bus stations.
It is worth noting that countless people left the capital by rail, road, and water to share the joy of Eid.
Working people are now returning to Dhaka after the Eid holidays. Government officials and employees are expected to reach Dhaka by today and join work tomorrow.
However, those who have taken leave from their respective workplaces for March 24 and 25 will join work on March 29, after spending the public holiday for Independence Day on March 26 and the subsequent two-day weekend on Friday and Saturday (March 27 and 28).
In such cases, they are enjoying a continuous 12-day Eid holiday.
Notably, under normal rules, March 17 was a public holiday for Holy Shab-e-Qadr. The Eid holiday was for five consecutive days from March 19 to 23.
In between, Wednesday, March 18, was a working day.
However, to ensure a smooth journey for home-bound people and to provide a continuous seven-day holiday, the government declared March 18 a holiday by executive order following demands from various quarters.
Later, on March 8, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification declaring the holiday for March 18 by executive order.
