PM Tarique: Hope to further strengthen national unity on Eid-ul-Fitr

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday extended greetings to the people of the country and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr, expressing hope that the festival will further strengthen national unity.

In a statement issued, he said: “I hope that holy Eid-ul-Fitr will further strengthen the bond of our national unity and mutual compassion.”

He said Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the two biggest religious festivals of Muslims. After a month-long practice of fasting and restraint, the festival brings messages of joy, peace, harmony and brotherhood.

The prime minister said the holy month of Ramadan imparts unique lessons of restraint, sacrifice, service and self-purification, adding that the month-long practice teaches people self-control and empathy for others’ suffering, fostering a spirit of compassion and mutual cooperation in society.

He said reflecting the teachings of Ramadan in individual, family, social and state life is the true significance of Eid, noting that the festival calls for transcending divisions between rich and poor, young and old, and strengthening bonds of love and brotherhood.

On the occasion, he urged people to stand beside the helpless, poor and underprivileged and share the joy of Eid with all, saying this should be their commitment.

“Let us, inspired by the great ideals of Eid, work together to build a humane, developed, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh,” he said.

He also prayed to Almighty Allah to bestow the joy, mercy and blessings of Eid-ul-Fitr on all, and sought divine guidance to lead the country toward peace, progress and prosperity and ensure the welfare of the entire Muslim Ummah.
