Main Eid congregation at National Eidgah at 8:30am, alternative at Baitul Mukarram

The main congregation of Eid al-Fitr in the capital will be held at 8:30am at the National Eidgah.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to offer prayers at the congregation, according to sources from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Cabinet members, senior leaders of various political parties and other state dignitaries are also expected to attend the main congregation.

However, if weather conditions are unfavourable or prayers cannot be held at the National Eidgah due to rain, the main congregation will instead take place at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9am.

Authorities concerned have already completed overall preparations for the central Eid congregation. Necessary measures related to security, traffic management, electricity and water supply have been taken by both Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to ensure that residents can participate in the prayers smoothly.

DSCC said preparations have been completed to hold the main Eid congregation at the traditional National Eidgah ground.

At a press briefing at the venue on Monday, DSCC administrator Abdus Salam said arrangements have been made so that prayers can continue even if it rains.

He added that law enforcement personnel will be deployed at multiple levels to ensure security, while traffic movement on roads adjacent to the Eidgah will be controlled to maintain order.

Meanwhile, DNCC said a central Eid congregation will also be held at 8am at the old trade fair ground near the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Agargaon.

The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting held at the DNCC office last Sunday, chaired by DNCC administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton.
