Mirza Abbas to be taken to Singapore on Sunday

Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and political adviser to the Prime Minister, will be taken to Singapore for advanced medical treatment.

His personal secretary, Mizanur Rahman Sohel, confirmed on Saturday evening that the final decision has been made to take him to Singapore by air ambulance on Sunday.

He said, “He will be flown to Singapore by air ambulance at 11am on Sunday. Mirza Abbas’s wife, Afroza Abbas, president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, and their elder son, Mirza Yasir Abbas, will also accompany him.”

Earlier on Friday, Mirza Abbas underwent brain surgery in two phases at Evercare Hospital in the capital. A CT scan of his brain was conducted this morning, and according to BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam, the report showed positive results. He is currently being kept under close observation at the hospital.

Last Thursday, Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital that night. A CT scan of his brain was conducted later, and the report indicated a worsening condition. A virtual medical board was then convened, which decided that surgery was necessary.

According to the BNP media cell, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been regularly enquiring about Mirza Abbas’s health. On Friday afternoon, the Prime Minister visited him at Evercare Hospital. In addition, Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, along with many national leaders, also visited the hospital to check on his condition.
