Prime Minister Tarique Rahman continued to work from the Secretariat for the second consecutive day on Thursday, commuting from his Gulshan Avenue residence while complying with regular traffic signals, according to his office.
Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Ruman said the premier left his residence at 8:34am in his personal vehicle.
On the way to the Secretariat, his convoy stopped at four traffic signals where red lights were in effect. He arrived at the Secretariat at 9:15am, with the journey taking 41 minutes.
Upon reaching his office, the prime minister was received by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Principal Secretary to the PM, ABM Abdus Sattar.
Ruman said that when the prime minister’s vehicle stopped at traffic signals, pedestrians on the roadside applauded and greeted him.
The prime minister responded by waving from his car. Some individuals approached the vehicle to convey their greetings, and a few were seen taking selfies from close range using their mobile phones.
After taking his seat at the office, the prime minister inquired about the presence of ministers, secretaries and other officials at their respective offices, the additional press secretary added.
The PM’s Office is located at the Cabinet Division in Building No 1 of the Secretariat.
Tarique Rahman had also worked from the Secretariat on Wednesday, the first official working day of the BNP-led government.
According to Ruman, former chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus worked from the Secretariat for one day during his tenure, while former prime minister Sheikh Hasina did so for two days.
