Nahid Islam wins Dhaka-11 seat

In the preliminary results for the Dhaka-11 constituency, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been declared the unofficial winner by a margin of more than 2,000 votes.

Contesting with the Shapla Kali (water lily bud) symbol, Nahid Islam secured 93,872 votes.

His closest rival was MA Quayum, the candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who received 91,833 votes. Nahid Islam won by a margin of 2,039 votes.

The result was announced at around 6:45am on Friday by Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Dhaka divisional commissioner and returning officer, at Segunbagicha in Dhaka.

Voting, including postal ballots, was held at 163 polling centres in the Dhaka-11 constituency. The total number of voters in the constituency is 439,075. Of them, 196,370 cast their votes. A total of 3,517 ballots were declared invalid, leaving 192,853 valid votes.
