The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Mohammad Ishaq Sarker for defying party directives by contesting the upcoming parliamentary election in the Dhaka-7 constituency as an independent candidate against the party’s official nominee.
The decision was announced in a press release issued on Wednesday night, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
According to the release, Ishaq Sarker has been expelled from the party’s primary membership and removed from all positions at all levels for breaching party discipline and violating organisational instructions.
Ishaq Sarker previously served as organising secretary of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and as organising secretary of the central executive committee of Jubo Dal.
He is contesting the Dhaka-7 seat as an independent candidate with the football symbol.
BNP central executive committee member Hamidur Rahman is the party’s official candidate in the constituency, contesting with the sheaf of paddy symbol.
Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Enayet Ullah is also contesting the seat, running with the scales symbol.
