BNP leader shot and injured in Keraniganj

A BNP leader was critically injured in a shooting by miscreants in Ward No 7 of Hazratpur Union in Keraniganj, Dhaka.

The victim, Mohammad Hasan Molla, 45, general secretary of the BNP in Hazratpur Union, Ward No 7, was shot on Thursday at around 9:30pm.

He was later rescued in critical condition and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11pm, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

According to his brother, Rakib Molla, the incident occurred while Hasan Molla was returning home from a waz mahfil. Near the residence of “Hero Chairman” in Ward No 7 of Keraniganj, two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled the scene.

“After receiving the information, we rushed to the spot, rescued my brother, and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he is now under treatment,” Rakib Molla said.

He added that Hasan Molla was shot on the right side of his abdomen.

Rakib further said that Hasan Molla is the son of Md Akram Molla and a resident of the Jagannathpur area of Keraniganj, Dhaka.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said that a BNP leader named Hasan Molla was brought in with a gunshot wound from the Keraniganj area.

“He is receiving treatment in the emergency department and sustained a bullet injury to the right side of his abdomen. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station,” he added.
