BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said a fascist conspiracy may be behind the killing of former Swechchhasebak Dal leader Mostafizur Rahman alias Musabbir, in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in front of the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon.
Referring to the killing, Salahuddin said: “Fascist conspiracies are still continuing. Yesterday, on (Wednesday) miscreants killed a former leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal. There may be a conspiracy behind this incident as well.”
When asked whether such incidents could affect the election, the BNP leader said: “Some isolated incidents are occurring in the country. However, these will not have any impact on the election.”
Stating that all political parties are committed to ensuring a proper 13th parliamentary election, he added: “In the end, all political parties will make the election a success.”
Responding to a question about BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to the northern region, Salahuddin said there would be no violation of the election code of conduct surrounding the tour.
On seat-sharing, the BNP leader said: “In a large political party, many people have expectations, but it is not possible for the party to meet everyone’s demands. Organizational measures are being taken against those who have become rebel or independent candidates, while some candidates are being persuaded.”
Musabbir was shot dead at around 8:30pm on Wednesday in an alley behind Star Kabab at Tejturi Bazar in Tejgaon. He was a former general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Swechchhasebak Dal.
Another person, Abu Sufian, who was with him at the time, was also shot and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Abu Sufian is the general secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Owners’ Association.
Meanwhile, Musabbir’s wife has filed a case at Tejgaon Police Station over the killing. However, no arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident.
