Md Zobayer Hossain Pappu, the prime accused in the fatal assault of Pabna Judge Court apprentice lawyer Naeem Kibria, has confessed to his involvement in the killing before a Dhaka court.
Zobayer, 29, made the confession during a hearing on Monday. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana recorded the statement following an application by the investigation officer and ordered him sent to jail, confirmed prosecution SI Zakir Hossain.
According to police, Kibria was driving in the Bashundhara Residential Area on the night of December 31 when his car collided with a motorcycle, triggering an argument. Unidentified assailants on motorcycles pulled him from the car and beat him indiscriminately. He was rescued around 10:45 p.m. and taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where he was declared dead. His father, Golam Kibria, filed a case at Bhatara Police Station on January 2.
Police arrested Zobayer from the Baridhara area on Sunday. Investigation Officer Inspector Mehedi Hasan said evidence, including CCTV footage, linked him to the crime. Footage showed Zobayer and two to three other motorcycles chasing Kibria’s car, blocking it at the entrance of Road No. 7, and attacking him. Kibria was then taken to another location and assaulted again by a second group of assailants, leading to his death.
