At least three accidents occurred on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway over the past 10 hours due to dense fog leaving a minimum of 20 passengers injured.
No casualties have been reported so far.
The incidents took place between Thursday night and early Friday at three separate locations on the expressway involving buses trucks and a covered van.
According to Srinagar Fire Service and local sources the first accident occurred around 7pm on Thursday in the Bejgaon area of Srinagar when two speeding buses operated by Golden Line and Saad Abdullah Transport collided head on leaving several passengers seriously injured.
As fog conditions worsened a second accident occurred around 1am in the Medenimondol area of Louhajang where a bus a truck and a covered van were involved in a three way collision.
The final accident took place around 5am on Friday in the Chhanbari area of Srinagar where reduced visibility due to heavy fog led to a collision between a bus and a truck. Fire Service officials confirmed that the number of injured across the three incidents has exceeded 20.
Srinagar Fire Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain said fire service personnel rushed to the scenes immediately after receiving reports and began rescue operations. The injured were initially taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex while several critically injured passengers were referred to hospitals in Dhaka and Faridpur for advanced treatment.
Hasara Highway Police said one bus and one truck involved in the accidents have been seized and kept at the police station. Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to limit vehicle speed during periods of dense fog on the expressway.
