Finance Affairs Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has been confined to his office at the Secretariat by employees from various ministries and divisions, who blockaded the area on Wednesday afternoon demanding allowances.
Groups of employees gathered on the fourth floor of Building No. 11 and took position in front of the adviser’s office, according to officials at the scene.
It was learned that the employees — led by Badiul Kabir, a factional president of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Combined Council — confined the adviser inside his office at the Ministry of Finance.
Badiul Kabir told Dhaka Tribune that Secretariat employees have long been demanding various allowances, adding that they will not leave until the government issues an official gazette announcing the benefits.
