Two groups of students clash at Alia Madrasah in Bakshi Bazar

A clash broke out between two groups of students at the Government Madrasah-e-Alia in the capital’s Bakshi Bazar area around 10pm on Saturday.

According to initial information, a milad mahfil was underway inside the madrasah when an argument erupted between two groups of students, eventually escalating into a physical clash.

As the situation intensified, several students were injured. They were later rescued and taken to the hospital.

A group of students also assaulted Rayan, a journalist from Kaler Kantho, who was present at the scene. They snatched his mobile phone and live-streaming device.

Eyewitnesses said that even around 10:45pm, several students remained trapped inside the madrasah halls.

To bring the situation under control, police and army personnel entered the campus and began rescue operations.

Chawkbazar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abul Khayer told Dhaka Tribune that the dispute began over an issue during the milad mahfil.
