Six petrol bombs, four cocktails recovered in Mohammadpur

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) on Wednesday recovered six petrol bombs and four cocktails from the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial  area in Rayerbazar, Mohammadpur.

The explosives were reportedly stockpiled as part of preparations for sabotage ahead of the banned Awami League–declared lockdown on Thursday.

A special operation by RAB-2 led to the discovery of a suspicious bag near the cemetery around 6pm. Upon inspection, authorities recovered a total of 10 explosive devices.

RAB officials said a group of miscreants had stored the explosives in Mohammadpur with the intent to carry out sabotage during the lockdown.

The recovered bombs have high explosive potential, and their use in crowded areas could have caused significant damage, the officials added.

The Bomb Disposal Unit of RAB headquarters later arrived at the scene to destroy the petrol bombs and cocktails.

RAB confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to identify the individuals involved and uncover the full plan behind the attempted sabotage.
