CEC vows not to bow to pressure ahead of polls

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Wednesday reaffirmed the Election Commission’s commitment to holding free and fair elections, stressing that the body “will not bend to any pressure.”

Speaking at a training program for Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) in Dhaka, the CEC urged field-level officials to remain firm in their duties and uphold the law without compromise.

“You shall not bow to any pressure either. Stand firmly on your decisions, in full compliance with the law. We will extend all necessary cooperation to you,” he told the participants.

The event, titled Training of Trainers (TOT) on Poll Management, was held at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon with the participation of 50 UNOs.

The program comes as preparations intensify for the next parliamentary election, scheduled for early February 2026.

All four election commissioners—Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmad, Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, and Brig Gen (retd) Abdul Fazal Md Sanaullah—also addressed the function, which was presided over by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
