Law Ministry suspends Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury after corruption claims

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, has been suspended following allegations of corruption and abuse of power during his tenure.

Although the Ministry of Law and Justice issued the suspension order on September 29, the matter came to public attention on Monday.

According to sources, the suspension was approved by the Law Ministry in consultation with the Supreme Court after a private television channel aired an investigative report detailing the magistrate’s alleged misconduct.

Subsequently, a case was filed against Chowdhury under the Bangladesh Supreme Judicial Service Disciplinary Rules, prompting authorities to take disciplinary action.

Officials confirmed that the decision to suspend him was based on the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a formal investigation.
