Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus on Thursday urged development partners, NGOs, media, and civil society to cooperate with the government in building a healthy, strong nation.
“Let’s all take Bangladesh forward on the path of progress and prosperity,” he said in a message marking World Population Day.
Yunus called this year’s theme, “Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world,” very timely.
Noting that skilled population is the country's asset, the chief adviser said about 30% of the total population of Bangladesh is adolescents and young people.
The socio-economic development of the country depends on the education, good health, standard of living and empowerment of this huge population, he added.
“It is not enough to simply live independently or make decisions about family planning and reproductive health as desired; it is essential to maintain fairness and a sense of justice across generations to ensure sustainable development, improved living conditions, and peace and order in society,” he said.
In addition, to build a prosperous Bangladesh, equal opportunities must be ensured for all without any discrimination between boys and girls, he added.
Yunus noted that his interim government, formed through the mass uprising of students, workers and the public, is working towards building a developed and prosperous Bangladesh free from discrimination.
“Embracing the spirit of the July mass uprising, the government is committed to utilizing the immense potential of the young generation by ensuring the best use of family planning, maternal and child health and adolescent reproductive health care programs,” he said.
He wished the overall success of all the programs undertaken on the occasion of World Population Day 2025.
