EC mourns death of former CEC Shamsul Huda

The Election Commission (EC) has expressed its condolences over the death of former chief election commissioner (CEC) Dr ATM Shamsul Huda.

The information was conveyed through a statement signed by EC Public Relations Officer Asadul Haque on behalf of officials and employees of the EC and the EC Secretariat on Saturday.

In the statement, the EC conveyed deep sorrow over the death of the former CEC and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul. It mentioned that Shamsul Huda served as the chief election commissioner of Bangladesh for five years from February 5, 2007 to February 5, 2012.

He was born in 1942 into a respected Muslim family in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district. After the country's independence, he transitioned from the Pakistan Civil Service (CSP) to the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

In his career, he served in key positions such as deputy commissioner, secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and other ministries, and managing director of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Bank.

Dr ATM Shamsul Huda passed away at the age of 83 at his residence in the capital’s Gulshan area on the morning of Saturday.
