National Moon Sighting Committee to meet Thursday to set Ashura date

A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held on Thursday to fix the date of Ashura, after reviewing reports on the sighting of the moon for the month of Muharram, 1447 Hijri.

The meeting will take place at the Islamic Foundation Conference Room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 7pm, an Islamic Foundation press release said on Wednesday.

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain will chair the meeting, according to the release.

If the moon of the holy month of Muharram is sighted anywhere in the sky over the country, the concerned individuals are requested to report it by calling the following telephone numbers: 02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916, and 02-41050917.

Information may also be sent via fax to 02-223383397 or 02-9555951, or reported to the respective district commissioners or upazila nirbahi officers, the release said.
