Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has proposed increasing the duty-free threshold for bank deposits to Tk3 lakh in the national budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, aiming to provide relief to small savers.
As per the proposal, individuals with bank deposits of up to Tk 3 akh will no longer be required to pay excise duty, starting from the new financial year.
Currently, a Tk 150 duty is imposed on bank balances exceeding Tk1 lakh, up to Tk5 lakh.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk7,89,999 crore, in a televised speech on Monday.
