Health budget set at 41,908C with focus on coverage, workforce

The government has set aside Tk41,908 crore for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the 2025–26 budget, recognizing the importance of the health sector in the country’s development.

This is a small increase from last year’s budget, which was Tk41,407 crore.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed announced the new allocation in a pre-recorded speech shown on TV on Monday, while presenting the national budget of Tk7,89,999 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

“To ensure healthcare services for the poor, I propose an additional Tk4,166 crore for free medical treatment in the upcoming fiscal year, and Tk1,000 crore for the expanded vaccination program,” Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said during his budget speech.

He said special focus has been given to expanding healthcare coverage, improving infrastructure, and hiring skilled workers, with the goal of bringing all citizens under universal healthcare by 2030.
